French Toast Recipe: Easy to Make, Fluffy & Tender

Everyone has a recipe that makes them feel a little more special in the morning. For me, it’s definitely French toast. When you get bored with the classic breakfast table, it’s a great recipe that you can make by using stale bread at home. I love it with a little cinnamon and honey on top. You can try different toppings to create different flavors, too.

If you want it salty, just remove the vanilla and sugar from the recipe, and add a little salt. When combined with a hot cup of tea, it’s absolutely delicious. French toast is a recipe I really like, both sweet and salty. And it’s very easy to prepare!

Where Did French Toast Originate?

What is French toast, where does it come from? It is definitely not a French invention 🙂 Rather, it was Americans who gave this dish the name “French Toast”. Because French immigrants in America made the dish popular. In fact, its origins go back to Ancient Rome.

This recipe was invented long before France existed. The first known recorded recipe comes from Rome around 300 AD. Its name in Ottoman cuisine is “Favniyye”.

It derives from a method in which stale bread was dipped in a mixture of milk and egg and fried to prevent waste.

For French toast, classic sliced white bread is usually used. But instead of white bread, you can use whole grain or gluten-free bread. And instead of classic milk, you can use plant-based milks such as almond milk. I use a sweetener instead of sugar. If you are going to eat it with honey or jam, you can remove sugar from the recipe. It will not make a big difference in taste. In conclusion, there are no strict rules for this recipe. The details are completely up to you. I like to eat it with a little honey and a little cinnamon. Peanut butter, almond butter, chocolate spread, etc. can also be used as a topping. Of course, if you are going to buy these products ready-made, I recommend that you choose the ones without added sugar.
