Before diving into how to make crepes, let’s talk about what they are. Crepe is a thin and elegant pastry recipe that has spread from French cuisine to all over the world. It can be prepared as salty or sweet; however, in this article I will share a slightly sweet version. I generally like crepes with a slight vanilla scent more when they are sweet. I recommend you try it this way, but the sugar and vanilla are optional, so if you don’t want it, you can leave it out.

How to Make Crepes : Step by Step Recipe

1.Step: Break the egg into a large mixing bowl. Add sugar and a pinch of salt. Beat with a whisk until the mixture becomes frothy.

2.Step:Add the milk little by little to the whipped mixture while continuing to whisk. Then slowly add the flour and mix to avoid lumps. If you wish, you can add the vanilla at this stage.

3.Step:Add the melted butter or oil to the mixture and mix until you have a smooth dough. The dough should be fluid but not too watery. (Since it varies from flour to flour, if the consistency is too watery, add another half spoon of flour)

4.Step:Heat a medium-sized pan over medium heat. Grease the pan with a little butter or oil. (Use the minimum amount of oil, remove more if necessary. Otherwise, the crepes will be oily and crispy on the edges.)

5.Step:Using a ladle, pour the batter into the pan. Gently move the pan to spread the batter into a thin and even layer. Cook the crepe over medium heat until the bottom surface turns golden brown, for 40-45 seconds. Then, using a spatula, carefully turn it over without tearing it and cook the other side for 20-30 seconds.

6.Step:Once the crepes are cooked, serve them hot.

This recipe makes 4 to 5 crepes, depending on the size of your pan.
